Direct + Transferable Skills

Your experiences can help you land your target role in two ways:

🔹 Direct Experience — You've done the work before, and it's a clear, easy fit.

🔹 Transferable Experience — This is where things get tricky. A transferable experience is one that, with the right framing, can convince a hiring manager that you have the skills, background, and potential to succeed—even if you haven't done the exact job before.

Examples of Transferable Experiences:

Teaching → Project Management — If you've led a classroom, you've managed timelines, adapted to unexpected challenges, and communicated complex ideas clearly—all key skills for project management.

Retail Sales → Customer Success — You've handled difficult customers, provided tailored solutions, and kept people happy. That's customer success in a different setting.

Academic Research → Data Analysis — Conducting studies, interpreting results, and presenting findings all show analytical thinking and problem-solving—perfect for a data-driven role.

Event Planning → Operations Management — If you've coordinated logistics, managed vendors, and kept everything running smoothly, you have strong operational and organizational skills.

Identifying transferable experiences is hard. Most people struggle to see how their past work applies to new roles—that's where we come in. We analyze your stories and help you make the strongest case possible.

Not convinced? If you have a better, more direct example, tell that story! And if you don't like our suggestion, let us know.
